What is a DOT consortium?
A consortium pools CDL drivers from multiple employers into one random testing program managed by a registered C/TPA. FMCSA requires owner-operators and small fleets to be in a consortium, because you cannot select yourself for a random test. We manage the pool, run the draws and notify your DER when a driver is selected.
What does the annual fee include?
Enrollment in our random pool, every random drug and alcohol test, MRO review, Clearinghouse support, 5 years of recordkeeping, DER notifications and local support. Non-random tests are billed separately when they occur.
How does pricing work?
Pricing is per driver, per year, and the rate drops as your fleet grows. Use the calculator on this page. Choose the 2-year option to save 10%.
What happens when a driver is selected?
Your DER receives an email with the driver's name, the testing window and instructions. Your DER picks the date within the quarter, tells the driver that morning, and the driver walks into our clinic the same day. No appointment is needed.
What is a DER and do I need one?
A Designated Employer Representative is the person at your company authorized to receive selection notices and send drivers for testing. This can be the owner, an office manager or any employee with authority to send a driver.
What if a driver tests positive?
The MRO reports the positive result to your DER. The driver must immediately stop performing safety-sensitive functions and complete a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluation before any return-to-duty test.
Can I add or remove drivers during the year?
Yes. New drivers are added to the pool after a negative pre-employment DOT drug test result is confirmed. Drivers who leave your company are removed promptly.
